PUBLIC NOTICE Notice of Reissuance of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System General Permit for Sand and Gravel Facilities, General Permit No. GAG100000 The Georgia Environmental Protection Division proposes to reissue the existing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System General Permit for Sand and Gravel Facilities. The proposed General Permit authorizes applicants to discharge treated wastewater to Georgia State Waters and places conditions on the discharge of pollutants. In addition, the permit has been modified to include language for an approved Sludge Management Plan when dredged material is used to create berms, sold, or used for the purpose of mine reclamation in accordance with the covered facility's approved Land Use Plan. The proposed General Permit coverage is state-wide and is valid for a maximum of five years. Persons wishing to comment upon or object to the proposed determinations are invited to submit same in writing to the EPD address below, or via e-mail at EPDcomments@dnr.ga.gov, no later than thirty (30) days after this notification. If you choose to e-mail your comments, please be sure to include the words "NPDES General Permit for Sand and Gravel Facilities General Permit No. GAG100000" in the subject line to ensure that your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff. All comments received prior to or on that date will be considered in the formulation of final determinations regarding the application. A public hearing may be held where the EPD Director finds a significant degree of public interest in a proposed permit or group of permits. Additional information regarding public hearing procedures is available by writing the Environmental Protection Division. The Notice of Intent, summary of changes, fact sheet, and/or copy of the draft permit is available for review.
