POWELL PORTER WEDDING On March 31, 2023, Laura Elizabeth Powell married Damon Ripley Porter at the Swan House at the Atlanta History Center, in an outdoor ceremony officiated by the Honorable Gregory M. Sleet of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. The couple's ceremony included a land acknowledgment and call for action inviting guests to visit the Atlanta History Center's Native Lands exhibit during cocktail hour and to take action in the fight for indigenous rights. Following the ceremony and cocktail hour, the couple celebrated in the Grand Overlook Ballroom, followed by a true Atlanta exit in Georgia Tech's Ramblin' Wreck. The couple met through a mutual friend in February 2019, in Washington, DC, while Laura was serving as a judicial law clerk to a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Damon was an associate at Latham & Watkins. Three years later, Damon proposed in the middle of the Potomac River on Theodore Roosevelt Island, and the couple married a year after the proposal in the presence of their parents Christina Camp-Powell, Alan William Powell, Stephanie Ripley Porter, Ian Cyril Porter, family, and friends from five continents. Laura graduated from Georgia Tech, where she was a cheerleader. She obtained a master's degree from Emory University before graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School. Laura is currently an attorney at WilmerHale. Damon graduated from the University of Chicago and earned his J.D. as an evening student at Georgetown University Law Center, where he worked as an Associate in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel at the close of the Obama administration. Damon is currently an attorney at Latham & Watkins.
