Notice of Public Hearings: The Atlanta Board

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS: The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on November 5, 2025, and December 3, 2025, pursuant to O.C.G.A. 20-2-260(k.1) to discuss and receive input on the proposed closing of 15 schools/facilities. The public hearings will take place on November 5, 2025 from 5:30 to 6:00 PM, and December 3, 2025 from 5:30 to 6:00 PM, at the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Learning and Leadership Building, located at 130 Trinity Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30303. The schools to be closed are shown below indicating which school the students are proposed to be reassigned to, including the proposed school size and grade configurations as a result of the proposed closure and realignment: 1. Close Continental Colony ES with students reassigned to Kimberly ES (3090 McMurray Dr SW 30311, K-5 with 422 students), Deerwood ES (3070 Fairburn Rd SW 30331, K-5 with 580 students), and Fickett ES (3935 Rux Rd SW 30331, K-5 with 414 students); · Anticipated feeder pattern: Bunche MS and Therrell HS 2. Close Cleveland ES with students reassigned to Humphries ES (3029 Humphries Dr SE, 30354, K-5 with 300 students), Hutchinson ES (650 Cleveland Ave SW, 30315, K-5 with 286 students); Dobbs ES (2025 Jonesboro Rd SE, 30315, K-5 with 340 students); or Heritage Academy ES (3500 Villa Cir SE, 30354, K-5 with 369 students) · Anticipated feeder pattern: Long MS and South Atlanta HS 3. Jackson Primary ES with students reassigned to W.T. Jackson Main ES facility (1325 Mount Paran Rd NW, 30327, K-5 with 460 students); · Anticipated feeder pattern: Sutton MS and North Atlanta HS 13. Close Sarah Smith Intermediate ES facility with students reassigned to Sarah Smith Primary ES facility (370 Old Ivy Rd NE, 30342, K-5 with 791 students); · Anticipated feeder pattern: Sutton MS and North Atlanta HS 14. Close Toomer Annex at Whitefoord Building with pre-K seats distributed to other elementary schools within the Jackson feeder pattern. 15. Convert Carver Early College to an open enrollment Early College and an Atlanta School of the Arts with students currently assigned to the Carver zone reassigned to Washington HS (45 White House Dr SW, 30314, 9-12 with 1,307 students) and South Atlanta HS (800 Hutchens Rd SE, 30354, 9-12 with 1,347 students); and given preference to attend the Early College or the School of the Arts on the current Carver campus. Construction of a New ES @ A.D. Williams (1065 James Jackson Pkwy NW, 30318) and additions to Sarah Smith Primary ES (370 Old Ivy Rd NE, 30342) will be required to accommodate the re-assigned students. The total construction cost for expansion of these two schools will be $110-140 million (estimate), which will be dependent on E-SPLOST. The Atlanta Board of Education proposes to reuse the current Carver HS campus as a 6-12 Atlanta School of the Arts and an Early College. Sylvan Hills MS will be repurposed as a new elementary school. Plans for the remaining 13 school facilities that will be closed have not been finalized, and may be used for community good, including, but not limited to, early learning, workforce development, community resources, affordable housing, District use, and/or disposal. The Atlanta Board of Education anticipates that these changes will begin in the 2027-2028 school year. The Atlanta Board of Education requests formal written comments or suggestions regarding the system's organizational pattern or school sizes and shall allow appropriate discussion during the public hearings to be held on November 5, 2025 from 5:30 to 6:00 PM, and December 3, 2025 from 5:30 to 6:00 PM at the Alonzo A.
