PUBLIC NOTICE Notice of application for the General Land Application System Permit for Large Community Systems, Permit No. GAG278000 The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) is proposing the reissuance of a General Permit for land application systems (LAS) that utilize subsurface disposal. The General LAS Permit No. GAG278000 allows Class V septic systems to obtain coverage under the permit if those facilities treat domestic wastewater, have a design flow between 10,000 gpd and 150,000 gpd, and they discharge the pretreated domestic wastewater into a subsurface fluid distribution system. This general permit does not allow coverage for the discharge of hazardous substances. The coverage area of the proposed General Permit (No. GAG278000) is statewide. In addition, the permit has been modified to include language for an approved Sludge Management Plan to deliver sludge to another permitted facility for further treatment and ultimate disposal. Persons wishing to comment on the proposed permit are invited to submit their comments in writing to the EPD address below or via e-mail at EPDcomments@dnr.state.ga.us, within thirty (30) days after this notification. If you choose to e-mail your comments, please be sure to include the words "LAS permit reissuance General LAS Permit for Large Community Systems GAG278000" in the subject line to ensure that your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff. All comments received prior to or on that date will be considered in the formulation of final determinations regarding the application. A public hearing may be held if the EPD Director finds a significant degree of public interest in the proposed permit. A public hearing may be requested, or additional information regarding public hearing procedures is available, by writing the EPD at the address noted below. The Notice of Intent, summary of changes, fact sheet, and/or copy of the draft permit is available for review.
