Spill Notice on Monday, September 23, 2019The

SPILL NOTICE On Monday, September 23, 2019, the Department of Watershed Management (DWM) was made aware by Chattahoochee Riverkeeper staff of a fish kill within a tributary of Proctor Creek adjacent to Regina Drive NW. While conducting a creek walk upstream to evaluate the fish kill and additional impact to the creek, the DWM Natural Resources team, at 11:59 AM, Tuesday, September 24, 2019, discovered a broken sewer line at 814 Woods Drive NW caused by a collapsed pipe. A DWM wastewater services team responded to and contained the resulting sanitary sewer spill of approximately 5,710 gallons flowing into a tributary of Proctor Creek at 8 PM. The Department of Watershed Management has reported the incident as a major spill out of an abundance of caution due to the appeared contribution of the spill. The Georgia EPD was promptly notified, at 4 PM, Wednesday, September 25. The City's Office of Watershed Protection is currently sampling upstream and downstream to monitor for potential water quality impacts on the river and the affected area is scheduled for cleaning and disinfection. ______________________, Commissioner City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management 10-02/2019
